Welcome

On behalf of the Programme Management Team, I warmly welcome you to the International Foundation Programme (IFP) of Staffordshire University, delivered here on campus at CDUT.

This is the first step on the path to gaining an international qualification and CDUT is pleased to be able to offer you this opportunity. Appreciating and understanding different cultural values and approaches to learning is a vital part of this programme which seeks to prepare you with the necessary knowledge and skills to meet the challenge of UK higher education. You will study here on campus at CDUT, but we aim to offer you a learning experience as similar as possible to that of students in the UK.

Chengdu University of Technology (CDUT) prides itself in being at the forefront of developing a student-centred approach to learning and teaching. We are delighted to be working with SU in offering you this IFP. Central to this is our belief that it is you and your total learning experience that matters to us the most. As such, this is your course and the more you contribute to it the more you will get out of it.

We are aware that you will face difficulties in studying a programme fully delivered in English but with your commitment and our support we hope and believe you will be successful.

You will find that the teaching staff take an informal, although disciplined, approach. Discussion and full participation are encouraged; teaching sessions will be a mixture of formal lectures, seminars and a range of other activities deemed appropriate to the subject concerned.

You will find that the programme on which you are about to embark is a demanding one that requires a high level of commitment but it can also be immensely rewarding, as and when you excel yourself in meeting its’ inherent intellectual challenges.

Finally, I sincerely hope that you will enjoy the course and if you have any ideas to help make it better and stronger I would certainly like to hear them. Thank you.

Regards,

Matt Ryan
Director of the IFP at SU-CDUT
